Precedents and Inspirations

Project 1

I love the box idea where the light is hidden when you don't need it. But it has a very professional aesthetic to it that is clean and simple making it boring.

This light interest me as I want to incorporate aspects of the surrounding setting into my redesign and with this light being a desk lamp as well as having the extra feature for holding pencils.

I really like these lights and thought that are creative and fun and I want to incorporate a fun and creative solution to my redesign.

This is similar to the first design with both designs that are hiding the light. However this light has the extra feature of doubling as a pencil case. It also differs in the way that it operates in opens and closes.

I like this idea of minimizing and maximizing how much light you want, but what drew my attention more was the spiral that illustrates a spring and gave me the idea of a fun and interactive on and off switch.

Project 2

Looking at the use of recycled and second hand material for lights.

I thought that this is a pretty neat idea in using recycled cans to create a light that can be manipulated into choosing how much light you want/need.

This is a pretty clever idea in re-using the top ends of plastic bottles. I really like the use of multiples in the design.

I added this precedent because of I like the notion of carving out patters for shadows and extra effect.

I really like the effect that this light has. It makes you think. Instead of integrating nature with light this is completely the other way around.

5.
Recycled Funky Lamps

I thought that these designs are quite funky in the way that the original object is taken out of its context and redesigned into a new one.

I feel inspired by the edge of antiquarianism of the objects being used like the tea cup (everyone tends to use mugs these days), the old embellished patterned jars and the old collector spoons to create a different aesthetic.
